Working from Existence

The majority of my work consists of silkscreen, etijime, and shibori printing methods printed on natural fibers in a repetitive manner that is heavily influenced by nature.
My most effective work not only impacts me, but speaks to people all around me. By working in a large format scale I am forced to work with others as a unit, and find harmony as a team. Through the use of group lead projects and techniques, as well as the inclusion of graphic layouts, I try to create an inviting and warm environment within my textile work. By utilizing the earth around me for natural dyes and materials,  I hope to invite viewers to reconsider what can be used in everyday society, see what may need to change, and encourage people to work within their own communities. Ideally all my work should be able to be enjoyed aesthetically but also used practically in the form of clothing, furnishings, or other everyday objects.
My works are formed with specific patterns in mind that can then be grouped and manipulated into a larger print or textile all guided by the unique processes of printmaking. The methodology of how artwork is being made is a meditative process, and allows me the time to consider the sustainability of each piece. Artwork needs not to center on sustainability in theme to be eco friendly. By adjusting my everyday practices to be more environmentally aware, I am able to ground myself with the earth and within my own artwork. The goal is to either raise awareness, or provide a much needed distraction and comfort in times of distress.

Make it stand out.

Make it stand out.
